Biography
Vladimir Bajic is Professor and director of the Computational Bioscience Research Center at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Saudi Arabia. He was professor of bioinformatics and acting and deputy director of the South African National Bioinformatics Institute (SANBI), South Africa. He worked in industry and several academic and research institutions in Yugoslavia, South Africa, Singapore and Saudi Arabia, including the Institute for Infocomm Research in Singapore, where he was head of the Knowledge Extraction Laboratory. Several bioinformatic tools and a knowledge discovery platform he developed found commercial applications. Prof. Bajic was awarded the first South African National Research (Tier 1) Chair in Bioinformatics and Human Health. He serves on the editorial boards of several journals. He earned graduate and master’s degrees (University of Belgrade, Serbia), and a doctorate of engineering sciences (University of Zagreb, Croatia) all in electrical engineering. Research interest: development of platforms to facilitate knowledge-mining in biomedical domain; medical informatics; diagnostic biomarkers; in silico screening; drug repositioning.
